The Swarthmore Horticultural Society is a volunteer organization dedicated to enhancing the borough’s public landscapes. Founded in 2001 by a group of Swarthmore gardeners headed by Charles Cresson, noted horticulturist and garden author, the Society works to create floral displays in Swarthmore’s public spaces for visitors and residents to enjoy from early spring to the onset of winter. The gardens created and maintained by the Society now beautify Swarthmore’s Borough Hall, Town Clock, Co-op, and Gateway Park.
Society volunteers plant and maintain the beds working together in teams headed by experienced gardeners who design the gardens and select the plants. All of the Society’s work is funded by contributions from individuals, community groups, the Cresson Horticultural Trust, and the Swarthmore Centennial Foundation.
To volunteer or donate to the Society, contact Gladys Snively at gdsnively@comcast.net or 610-543-3461.
