Swarthmore Environmental, Parks, and Recreation (EPR) Committee minutes
for April 12, 2006

The meeting convened at 7:30 p.m.

Present: Geoff Semenuk, Susan Smythe, Tom Huestis, Gerhart Keller
(SRA Board member)

The March minutes were approved.

Old Business: Geoff reiterated the upcoming Deer Symposium, as weel
as the CRC Watershed Creek clean-up on May 6th.

New Business:

The Rutgers Avenue project was reviewed to the committee by Tom and
Gerhart. The history of the project as well as what has transpired
since it went dormant in the few last years.

Geoff questioned if a skateboard park might not be as popular now as
it seemed to be 4 years ago, and if pulling that out of the plans
might lower the overall costs enough to make it more fiscally
feasible. It was pointed out that a skateboarding area might be
looked upon very favorably by state grant funding agencies.

Additionally, the fact that the EAC had begun to pursue a stormwater
management scheme that might impact the overall design of the plan,
not to mention the overall funding picture in that there might be
grant money available if better water management could be
incorporated into the overall plan.

Tom will invite a school board rep to an EPR meeting (Steve
Goldfield) in hopes that we might gauge the likelyhood and scope of
WSSD participation, especially considering their upcoming Middle
School project planning and spending. Also to be considered is the
role of CADES in the overall plan for improvement of the recreation
area.

Geoff briefly described the status of the Little Crum Creek Park
proposal, namely waiting for "final" plans from the design firm.

Respectfully submitted,

Geoff Semenuk
EPR chair
