MINUTES OF
Borough of Swarthmore - Public Safety Committee
September 18, 2007

In attendance were Council Members Bech and Parker, Mayor Gerner, and Fire Chief Hansen. Mr. Huestis and Police Chief Craig were absent.
The purpose of this meeting was to hear a presentation by Dr. William Jenaway, Vice President of VFIS, regarding the potential consolidation of the Morton, Rutledge, and Swarthmore fire companies. Dr. Jenaway covered numerous topics, including financial, structural, and operational issues associated with consolidation and/or coordination of multiple fire companies. His presentation was very well organized.
At the conclusion of Dr. Jenaway’s presentation, all persons in attendance were afforded the opportunity to comment and to ask questions. There were numerous members of the public in attendance, and several of them commented and asked questions on a number of subjects. A number of attendees focused on the mission of the Tri-Borough fire company and the role to be played by the Task Force.
The meeting adjourned at approximately 9:00 p.m., at which point everyone enjoyed refreshments that were provided by the Swarthmore Fire & Protective Association.
