Swarthmore Borough Council
Public Safety Committee
________________________
Minutes of Meeting for January 21, 2003
In attendance: Committee Members Joanna Jacobs, Chair; Lisa Aaron and Tom Huestis; Police Chief Brian Craig; Fire Chief Ed Kline.
Members of the public: Paul and Mary Mangelsdorf (110 Cornell); Lee Greenwood (114 Cornell); Janet Saunders (106 Cornell); Colleen Guiney
1. The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. in the conference room in the Swarthmore Police Station.
2. There was a discussion with neighbors about parking along the 100 block of Cornell. Apparently there was an ordinance passed years ago which prohibited parking along that block. The accompanying exception for residents of that block was was omitted inadvertently. Residents are seeking an ordinance to permit their parking in the block because none of the homes there have driveways.
3. There was also discussion about writing to Media Real Estate about
painting new lines for the fire lane at the Greylocks Apartments.
4. A letter had been received and was read aloud relating to the intersection
of North Chester Road. A resident alerted the Borough that the sign for “No right turn on Red” was not sufficiently visible. It was decided that the sign was visible if the cars stopped where they were supposed to, but that because of salt and snow the white lines needed repainting. New lines will be painted in the spring.
5. We discussed the Ad hoc Committee to study the future of the Fire Department, and the relationship between the Department and the Borough. We decided to continue the meeting to Saturday morning when the committee members could take a tour of the Fire House and talk further with Ed Kline.
.
8. The meeting was adjourned at around 10:00.
The next meeting will be February 18, 2003. Minutes submitted by Joanna Jacobs.
