Note: Garbage and trash will
NOT be collected on the following holidays:

Location
of trash to be collected:
Side
yard or within 25 ft. of rear of house, all in
one place, out in the open, and not within closed
doors of garage, house or other enclosure. If
underground garbage cans are used, place other
trash beside them.
Containers:
Each
container shall be water tight, water resistant
(not paper bag or cardboard carton) securely covered
and shall not exceed 20 gallons capacity or 50
lbs. in weight including the container. Underground
garbage cans shall be conspicuously marked. Collectors
are not obliged to hunt for such containers nor
are they obliged to remove underground garbage
cans which are frozen into the ground.
Condition:
Garbage
shall be drained and wrapped in paper or plastic
covering and may be deposited in same container
as dry trash. Trash other than garbage, shall
be dry.
Materials
not accepted in regular trash collection:
Furniture,
lumber, roofing, leaves or garden trash, non-combustibles
in general such as appliances, bicycles, large
toys, sand, earth, sod, bricks, plaster, wet trash
and pieces of metal larger than tin cans. Dangerous
materials such as poisons, acids, caustics, highly
flammable materials or liquids, explosives or
insecticides.
Heavy
Trash Collection Schedule:
Heavy
Trash is collected on the 3rd weekend of every
month
Requests:
Schedule
a pick up by sending an email to:swarthmore2@comcast.net
with your name, address, phone number and a list
of the items to be picked up or call the Borough
Office at (610) 543-4599. Requests for a Bulk/Heavy
Trash pick-up must be submitted to the office
by noon on the Wednesday preceeding the 3rd Friday.
There is no extra charge for this service.
Acceptable
materials:
Bulky
objects, furniture, mattresses and springs, bedding,
and non-combustibles such as automobile parts,
non-recyclable metal objects, non-freon containing
appliances, bicycles, and large toys.
Unacceptable
materials:
Construction
debris, including lumber, roofing, sand, brick,
and concrete, freon-containing appliances, loose
twigs, small branches, and other yard debris,
and dangerous or hazardous materials such as poisons,
acids, caustics, highly flammable materials or
liquids, explosives or insecticides.
